This week, the Marvel Builders team has been making significant strides on a barn remodel in Gilbertsville. This project is just getting started, but it’s already shaping up to be something special. Could it end up as a barndominium? Maybe! Though let’s be honest, “barndominium” is one of those words that makes you stop and think. Regardless of its final purpose, we’re excited to be breathing new life into this structure.
Here’s a breakdown of what we’ve been working on:
Stormwater System Installation
One of the first tasks we tackled was installing a stormwater system. Managing ground water effectively is crucial, especially when considering the elevation of the finished floor. This system will ensure proper drainage and stability for years to come, laying the groundwork for a solid and functional structure.
Rot Repair
During our initial assessments, we discovered significant rot in various areas. As any builder knows, rot can compromise the integrity of a building. We carefully removed the affected materials and made the necessary repairs, ensuring the barn’s foundation and framework are solid and secure moving forward.
Foundation Piers for the New Porch
Next, we installed foundation piers that will support a brand-new porch. These piers are critical for providing stability and durability to the porch, which will undoubtedly become a standout feature of this remodel. They’re now set and ready to carry the load of the porch’s design.
Andersen 400 Series Windows Installation
We also began installing Andersen 400 series windows. Known for their quality and energy efficiency, these windows will bring in natural light and add a touch of modern charm to the barn. This step is the beginning of transforming the barn’s appearance and usability.
Reframing Failing Overhangs
Finally, we addressed the failing overhangs. These elements were in rough shape, and reframing them was essential for restoring their structural integrity. This work ensures the barn’s exterior is as robust as it is functional, paving the way for further enhancements.
