At Marvel Builders, Inc., we love taking on projects that challenge us to transform spaces into something truly special. Our latest project in Douglassville is a perfect example of this. We’ve been tasked with turning a failing screen porch into a fully conditioned living space, and we’re excited to share our progress with you.

The Challenge

Our client reached out to us because their 5-year-old home had a screen porch that was rotting and falling apart. Though we didn’t build the original structure, we were more than ready to take on the challenge of rebuilding it better and stronger.

Starting from Scratch

This week, we began by tearing out the old, rotted framing. It was clear that starting from scratch was the best approach to ensure a durable and long-lasting solution.

Building a Strong Foundation

We installed a new frame floor over a 6mil poly vapor barrier to prevent moisture issues. Next, we insulated the floor, providing a cozy and energy-efficient base for the new space. On top of the insulation, we installed Advantech subfloor, known for its superior strength and moisture resistance.

Upgrading the Openings

All the window openings are new and now feature Andersen 400 series casements, which not only look fantastic but also offer excellent energy efficiency. Additionally, we installed a sturdy and stylish Therma-Tru entry door, enhancing both the functionality and appearance of the space.

Exterior Enhancements

For the exterior, we’re using James Hardie cement siding over the new ZIP System sheathing. This combination ensures that the exterior is not only beautiful but also durable and weather-resistant.

We’re excited to see this project take shape and can’t wait to share the final results with you. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to transform this space into a beautiful, functional part of our client’s home.

Thank you for following along with us on this journey!
