At Marvel Builders, we’re often called in for big remodels or brand-new additions, but sometimes the most meaningful jobs are smaller, personal ones that help someone at a critical moment in life.
This week, we’re working for an elderly customer who’s had her share of health challenges, including battling cancer. She reached out to us to help get her home in shape to sell. It’s never easy to see someone in that situation—having to leave a home filled with memories because of health or other life changes. But we’re grateful to be able to help make the process just a little bit easier and less stressful for her.
Our scope on this job is all about cosmetic touch-ups and making sure the house is ready for market. We’ve been drywalling, spackling, and painting about half the home. Years of daily life had left dings, nicks, and stress cracks, all of which we’ve smoothed out and refinished so the home looks fresh and cared for.
During our walk-through, she also pointed out a spot that had a leak. We investigated and found that the real culprit was missing kick-out flashing—something that, if done right by contractors in the first place, would save a lot of homeowners from leaks and damage. We repaired the leak area properly, addressed the underlying problem, and made sure the exterior is correctly flashed to keep future owners worry-free.
We still have a few punch-list items to finish before we call this one complete, but overall, it’s been rewarding to help this customer get her home market-ready. While the work is important, what really matters to us is knowing we can bring someone a little peace of mind in a difficult time.
If you have a home that needs prep for sale, big renovations, or you just want the details done right the first time, we’re always here to help.
