Transforming a Home by Removing a Chimney
Many older homes were designed with large masonry chimneys that take up valuable living space. While they once served an important purpose, they can make a floor plan feel closed off and restrictive.
During a recent renovation project, the Marvel Builders team removed a large interior chimney to create a more open layout and improve the flow of the home.
Chimney demolition is not simply a matter of tearing out masonry. These structures often support significant structural loads from the roof and floor framing above.
Installing LVL Beams for Structural Support
After carefully removing the chimney, our team installed engineered LVL (laminated veneer lumber) beams to properly support the structure.
LVLs are designed to carry heavy loads while maintaining dimensional stability. Installing these beams ensures the home remains structurally sound while allowing the new open floor plan to take shape.
Structural modifications like this require precise planning and skilled installation to guarantee long-term performance and safety.
New Roofing with Owens Corning Duration Shingles
Along with the interior structural changes, the home also received a complete roofing upgrade.
The crew installed Owens Corning Duration shingles, a high-performance roofing system known for durability, wind resistance, and long-term reliability.
A quality roof installation protects the home while enhancing curb appeal and overall value.
Sneak Peek: A Large Post-Frame Pole Barn
In addition to the renovation work, Marvel Builders has also begun construction on an impressive post-frame pole barn.
The structure features large engineered trusses and a spacious open layout that will provide significant storage and functionality for the property owner.
We’re excited to share more updates as the project progresses.
